How To Make Gum Paste Flowers?

There are a few key steps involved in making gum paste flowers. Afterward, you'll tape the petals together to create the desired shape and structure. Step 1: Prepare Your Gum Paste and Tools

- Knead the gum paste first to make it pliable and remove air bubbles.

- Coloring the gum paste to the color you like with food coloring.

- Arrange your work area with all necessary tools including the rolling pin, foam pad, flower cutter, ball tool, brushes, flower holder, and water or edible glue.

 

Step 2: Making the Center

- Roll out a small amount of gum paste and shape it into a ball or cone to form the center of the flower.



Step 3: Roll Out the Gum Paste

- Dust the work surface lightly with cornstarch or powdered sugar to prevent sticking.

-Use a rolling pin to roll out a small portion of gum paste to an even thickness. Aim for a thickness of approximately 1/16 to 1/8 inch.

 

Step 4: Cut Out The Petals

-Choose your favorite flower cutter and press firmly into the rolled-out gum paste.

- Remove excess paste around the shape and lift the cutter slightly to release the petal shape.

- Repeat this process to cut out more petals as needed, making sure you have a consistent number of flowers per layer.


















Step 5: Shaping The Petals

- Place the petals on the foam pad and use the small ball tool to thin and shape the edges. Work around the entire petal to create realistic curves.

- Repeat this process for all petals, shaping each petal slightly differently for added variety and a natural look.


















Step 6: Assembly

- Brush the floral wire with water or edible glue, attach the floral wire to the back of the petal, and press the wire lightly onto the petal.

-Add more petals, one after the other, overlapping slightly, and attach them to the wire in the same way. Build layers to create the desired flower shape.



















Step 7: Dry The Flowers

- Place the wired flowers on a planter or other drying stand so they can dry in their natural location.

- Let the gum paste flowers dry completely, this may take several hours or even overnight, depending on the size and thickness of the petals.
